BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance.
British Pathé also represents the Reuters historical collection, which includes more than 136,000 items from the news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1984. You know what I so like about The Crown (apart from everything)? That it shows people, real people: they way they look, so normal, good looking bad looking, but different, human. In so many new Hollywood movies people look like mannequins; here you have people. And I like that they are such wonderful actors. They can play, like really play. I feel each and every character, their emotions, I feel what they feel. I gave up on Hollywood movies long time ago. This is superb

I feel horrible for tge Queen if even half of what she was forced to live was true. She was constantly thrown in bad positions and forced to then think not of what was right or just to do but rather to think of the horrid rules of the State the Position and the Crown! It actually came all about the greed of men and trying to take over. And as for poor princess Margerate her life just got derailed in the process. Im soo thankful l live in America... I would never wish to live under a ruler based on those whose history came into power by killing and claiming countries and then ripping all the land of it natural resources.

Indeed, what a glorious history that runs back a 1000 years, all most every corner of this world is influenced by the British in one way or the other. Have a question: In one of the early episodes there is a meeting with the Archbishop, Lascelles, Duke of Windsor, and someone else. This is the meeting that was a bit of an ambush on the Duke, and where they were trying to disinvite him from the coronation and where they told him that the Duchess was not invited. At one point I believe it was Lascelles that says something about the 'Soms' or 'Solms' or 'Salms' or something, and it was a reference to a battle in a recent war (not sure if WWI or WWII). Anyone provide insight on what that reference was? I watched it 2-3 times and could not get what they were saying.

@Jordana Beaulieu there is no evidence this was the case. It was used to make events seem more dramatic and tense in the series, which after all may be based on historical events but in end comes from the imaginations of the creators of the series. No one really knows, apart from the Royal Family itself how true any of this is. However Sir Winston Churchill did loathe the Graham Sutherland portrait and was greatly upset by Sutherland’s portrayal of him as a frail, old man. Churchill’s loyal wife, Clemmie, is believed to have burnt the portrait.
