The only thing I feel sad about is that the story isn't real. And at last Soviet sportsmen are shown in a way they always were: decent people with self-esteem

One of the best series ever. Every episode kept me glued to the screen. As an INTJ and an introvert I see myself a lot in her, except for the drugs and alcohol part. She is stunning, fragile, beautiful but always trying to be her own Knight in shinning armour in front of everyone. Benny could see right through her, because they are so similar, and their relationship is just perfect. They understand each other beyond words and have empathy to one another. I think she sees in Borgov a cold and stoic father figure and she's intimated by that. She needs to confront her own shadows, but the last hug in the end was the real success of the entire series. Now about her Townes it would have never worked out, even if he wouldn't have been gay, because they simply don't have that deep bonding and understanding. There is always someone we are attracted to, who is very good looking, but they don't match on every level like she does with Benny. When she said she liked his hair, you realize how much chemistry they have, how fluent the dialogues are without *akward deep silences like she had with Townes. So beauty isn't everything in life. With Harry, I like him a lot, because he is a good person and always trying to "fix" her or to "save" her, but it was Benny that challenges her, and also they have a more *balanced relationship because he knows when to draw the line and say :"no". She did choose alchol over him. She's fighting with herself as well. She is learning to love herself despite her past. Terrible adults, terrible men who instead of loving her, they either abandon her (aka her biological father) or simply DENY the fact he adopted her and thus signed the paper for adoption (her adoptive father)... I think most of her "demons" also come from within her "shadows" which have built over time inside her. Like take RESPONSIBILITY, you didn't adopt an object but a human being with a soul. @hole!!!! 🤬 She is self destructive, because she only has chess to bond to, not genuine human relationships. That's where the "addiction" pattern comes from. Her adoptive mother and her friend Jolene were the real Queens in this story and they were a strong reference point for her. A complete series, that explores the depth of a human being who needs to outsmart everyone in the room to be able to SURVIVE. Is true she has talent, but... That also camed at very HIGH price. Almost no family or a stable background so when she is an adult she only has herself to rely on and she starts to lose the grip of reality, until she learns to love herself more. I have empathy for her, because I was also determined to self destruct for other reasons, so I know how dark things can get, through anxiety, sleep depravation, depression and VERY bad eating habits + smoking a lot + coffee. In the end it's a success story after years and years of struggles with her inner demons. She's not crazy, it's a crazy world. I ranked it with 10/10.

I loved how at the end even though she has been given help from friends of Borgov’s potential moves and how to play them, he caught her off guard and played a completely different move. By doing so, she was able to tune into her mind as she always had , but this time without drugs and played well to win Borgov. If Borgov had played those predicted moves she might have come away still not having accomplished any satisfaction because she had help from friends.she did it alone!!!

What I like about this show is that it somehow gives a really good closure in that a person doesn't have to love or to be loved by someone or some guy (romantically) in order to fill the gap of your loneliness. Queen's Gambit for me is also a show about the journey to love oneself as much as it is about chess. Alone doesn't mean you have to be lonely.

All movies or books are not so much about the apparent subject (chess in this case), they are always about the protagonist's struggles. And, the director says he was taken with the genius and her self-destructive nature, but isn't that true of almost every rock star? I liked the show a lot, but there is nothing unique here except the chess, which, ironically, is being discounted.
