One of Beth's first opponents arrived late and wasted crucial time - this same thing happened to Magnus when he was child, facing chess legend Kasparov.

I founded very interesting the fact of taking the point of view of a male, who grew up with not impact of major trauma commenting on the mini séries... when I saw it I had flashbacks from my childhood. I was a silent kid since I was born to ten... My mother was mute and deaf and had to leave her when I was nine. For some reasons... So I lived in a orphanage and was send to the best school in the city. I had this old education... And on semester we got taught chess. I was intimidated, my teacher said to me : “you have nothing to loose” I thought that was true... And started to learn and play... (Before leaving my mom, I was a free child play in the luxurious garden and making my own toys and adventures... And thinking about lots of things metaphysical.) When I played chess... I could find again the enormous pleasure of being in my inner world... And the pleasure of my mind concentrate on the learning of multiple combinations, remembering and predict moves... And the focus quietness... Each time I played the world, disappeared and time was different and was mine... I never did loose, never looked to win... but simply beat my opponent with quietness. I did beat all the players... of the girls first... Than they wanted to see with the winner of the boys... I did beat him as well. I inter stood today why I had learn chess the way I did and so many other things. Because of a great memory and a hight cognitive mirror capacity... Also the woman in the movie, she is young, had a trauma (so a réflexe to num herself and get the sharpe mind) she took as well some psychotrope, to bind her imaginary cognitive mind with the strength et plasticity of the brain at that age ... and with of focus purposes (like her chess) what she did Is possible. With out psychotrope, what she did... I did it during 10-15 years old during my highly training sports and with language:) And she became a young woman with no necessarily social skills, but look how she behaves... Bref all this said... even for talking about chess I do not thing the intervenant in that video was the best person to comment.

I would also give it a 5/6 It has some really likeable, complex characters. It highlights the beauty of chess in a way that non-chess players can admire. It's world building is top of the line, like a passport through time. Before society got so frantic, where people still had to wonder what mexico would be like instead of instantly googleing it, where contact with someone you deeply admired is lost the moment you seperate from them. That being said there were some characters that were underdeveloped, there were some anti-christian undertones in the plot that were kind of random. And although beths character was not a man hater, this show is intended to belittle men through the empowerment of women.

@Rainmaker2 Ohhh. I didn't know her... Lame and extremely dull. And So how many tournaments did she win? And which rank was she in the world ? And how long did she stayed that position? You speak about a person who coincidentally came to top 10 because you have no better examle to come up with. I mean there is a guy in my country who beats this world number-1 in this video. But he is not in the same leauge of Magnus. There isn't any woman in the world like they describe in this show, there was't any, and never will be... So you see this empowering for women, But i see it as a Dis_RESPECT to real masters and ridiculing to Men and i know this is purposefully done by hollywood. I can tolarate different ideas but not the disrespect. Respect people who are good at something and who are the pioneer to humanity, then maybe you can wait for some Respect from me or others.

Thank you, Magnus for pointing out the importance of practice. Lot of people who mock those with unfortunate circumstances saying they were lazy should use that energy to make the world a better place for everyone. Also, when people call these genius gifted they are doing so to excuse their lack of hard work and disrespecting the hard work of those gifted people. If anyone beats unimaginable odds and achieves something, good. After all too much luxury never leads to any good. But this gifted mysticism is bad for everyone.

I think the "chess on the ceiling" thing is his opinion. Literally just yesterday I was watching Susan Polgár, another chess player, who talks about how you play out the possibilities in your head. While not everyone may choose the ceiling, it helps if you look away to imagine the pieces moving. By the way, Susan Polgár is sister to Judit Polgár, the only woman to beat the highest ranked player in the world at the time, and who has defeated multiple other male grandmasters, including yes, Magnus himself. So while HE may not picture a board or think it's common, some of the only people who can beat him have provided evidence to the contrary lmao

This guy sounds pompous at times. It's completely understandable to think there are people with certain gifts that see 'chess boards on the ceiling' so to speak. Some are born with certain talents, skill is grown through effort and work. The series shows how far her natural talent takes her and that she has to grow her skill after she gets so far.

It was kind of fun to watch. However, I feel like her character arc is almost nonexistent. She is never challenged, never fails. OK, she has a bit of trouble in the orphanage, but once that's over and done with, she beats every single player without breaking a sweat. She once loses to the Russian player at an inconsequential tournament, and loses an even more inconsequential speed chess game. That's it. I feel like the show could have been done so much better.
