Me sitting here eating a bag of grated cheese from Tesco just labelled “mixed cheese” 👁👄👁
Herestia 2 dögum síðan
And please, if you eat Manchego. Not every cheese "manchego" labelled is trully Manchego. Needs a certification!! Be very cautious in the supermarket when you go to buy it, because it's very easy to fool people with it!! The trick is that there's many cheeses made in Castilla La Mancha (where the name comes from), so they are "manchegos". But not certified!! (and even even more fake if they call them Manchego and are made in anywhere else... XD). It's a very long, complicated issue... Also, Manchego works wonders with just a drizzle of olive oil over it. :D

Americans talking about cheeses is like Europeans talking about burgers. They have no knowledge of how to eat or cut the cheese but they pretend they do. BTW, CHEDDAR IS NOT CHEESE, anyone claiming that cheddar is cheese is insulting cheese.
FFrenchy Degi Síðan síðan
@MusicIsLegal most people don't eat the crappy super processed cheese. Its only really served at fast food restaurants, and in some pre-made boxed foods (kraft Mac and cheese being the most popular). In the south and amoung poorer people it is somewhat popular (cuz its cheap). It's not like the cheese you get at a the grocery store or deli is trash. There is definitely a cheese culture in various parts of the U.S. especially in the northeast. The thing Europeans seem to not realize is how culturally diverse the U.S. is. Just because you see on TV shows making fun of disgusting cheese products doesn't mean that most people actually consume that crap.
MusicIsLegal Degi Síðan síðan
@FFrenchy I dont care what the US makes and doesnt make. Cheese is not just a product it comes with way more and mostly cultural wise and the way the cheese are made by respecting traditions. The US doesnt have a cheese culture/traditions except for that plastic processed yellow stuff that they call CHEESE which is a INSULT.
FFrenchy 2 dögum síðan
Yeah... you have no idea what your taking about. The U.S. makes more cheese than any other country and why isn't cheddar cheese cheese.

Great video. There are many other cheeses I would have enjoyed hearing about (Norwegian geitost, for example), but the selection in this video was still wonderful. I hated cheese growing up and only ate it on grilled cheese sandwiches, pizzas, and baked potatoes. Then I went on a homestay in France, and was overwhelmed by all the varieties of cheese. Out of the dozen or so cheeses my host family introduced to me over a month stay, I liked two. One, cancoillotte, doesn't really qualify as a cheese for aficionados, and the other one was a specialty cheese with layers of walnuts and rich, creamy cheese. Over the years, extended studies in France, and a membership in a cheese makers association, I grew quite fond of cheese. Today, two cheeses in this video stand out for me. One is the Mont d'Or. I remember the first time I saw it, smelled it and tasted it. I was amazed by its flavor and texture, not to mention that it used tree bark! Later, friends from Besançon introduced me to baked Mont d'Or. That was an amazing discovery for me. Mont d'Or and Comte are two of my absolute favorite cheeses. I picked up an Epoisses cheese once in a market in Savoie. The reason being because it smelled so bad I just had to try it. People say Munster cheese smells (the US version and the true Munster in Europe), but it doesn't come anywhere close to an Epoisses! My buddy told me it was a good cheese and indeed it was. I ended up specially wrapping the cheese and heading back to Lyon from Geneva on the train. By the time we pulled up at la Part Dieu station, the entire section of the train I was in reeked of Epoisses. Of all the cheeses I know, and I know lots now, it is the only one that can go toe-to-toe with a durian fruit in the battle for the smelliest food that tastes great.
Thomas 2 dögum síðan
Well if you call it feta it has to come from Greece only. So you can’t tell it’s being produced all over the world because only Greece has the right to call it Feta and no one else.
