Well the problem is that we are hard pressed to find and implement an alternative to plastic that not only would wear infinitely faster but also not disintegrate into microscopic particles that go in our stomachs through the food chain. Most are not economical, I assume.

Glass is the only container that is economic to recycle. Without an efficient way to recycle plastic directly most recycling centers throw it into landfills when the process increases in price even slightly. Paper is the same way too with the exception that paper can be incinerated with relatively low effect on the environment.

There's a beach in South west Victoria which occasionally has a heap of gannet feathers or dead penguins, kelp etc. Have seen rope and fishing braid. Always have a knife or scissors and am ready to get some stuff out of rocks
